The Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore have become very popular in the last few years. Due mainly to the mention of the park on Good Morning America as the most beautiful place in the United States. Even though it has become so popular, there are still many locations to go to experience new sights. The area that my friends and I call 'The Lake of Bones' is just such a place. Few know where this gem is located and I will not be the first to ruin the secret, but lets just say that it is in plain sight if you look hard enough.
My friend gave this location its name because of the countless dead trees found here. The trees grew during a period of stability hundreds of years ago, sand soon began its typical onslaught and covered the trees completely. As the sand continued to move, the trees became uncovered, no longer with life, but instead to become one of the most incredibly beautiful ghost forests.
